SPECIAL SERVICES

SPECIAL DIETARY NEEDS

Our Executive Chef is well educated regarding many dietary needs. Menus are rotated on a four-week cycle to provide the best selection. We encourage all students to let us know if there are any special needs they might have, and always have an open-door policy.

We strive for all students to have a good selection of food when dining at Sweet Briar College. As with everything, we stress, "Everything in moderation."

The possibility exists that manufacturers may change their formulation without our knowledge. Dining Services will assume no liability for any adverse reactions that may occur in the dining hall.

Items available in the Dining Hall:

  • Soy milk
  • One-percent organic milk
  • Lactaid
  • Tofu
  • Vegan deli meats, cheese and mayonnaise
  • Skim, 2-percent and whole milk
  • Organic peanut butter
  • Soy nut butter
  • Wheat-free breads
  • Low-fat and fat-free dressings
  • Low-fat cottage cheese and low-fat yogurt
  • Dairy-free, vegan, organic and gluten-free frozen entrees and desserts
  • Organic/preservative-free deli meats and cheese
  • Beef-free alternatives like turkey bacon and turkey Sausage
  • Cage-free eggs

Recipe standards:

  • We only use canola oil for frying and in all recipes.
  • All canned fruits are packed in water or 100-percent juice.
  • All tuna is packed in water.
  • We do not add MSG to any recipe, although some purchased items may contain MSG.
  • None of our soup bases contain MSG.
  • Olive oil is used when it is called for in recipes.
  • No peanut oil is used.
  • When called for, real butter is used.
  • Items containing nuts are clearly labeled.

  • Vegetables that contain meat products are labeled.
  • Vegetables cooked without any animal products are labeled.
  • Occasionally, we will have total vegan dishes.

SPECIAL REQUESTS

As part of the orientation process, the executive chef meets with incoming first-year students to discuss their likes and dislikes. This information is instrumental in creating a menu that is nutritionally balanced and pleasing for all.

In addition, if a student has special dietary needs or restrictions, they are encouraged to speak with the chef. Students may also use the "comment board" to compliment the staff, opine about a particular dish or request new food items.

Dining services also holds bi-monthly food committee meetings, during which representatives from each class can express concerns and make suggestions.

SWEET REMEMBRANCE

Give your special someone a gift to show you care!

A "Sweet Remembrance" gift package can add to any occasion or brighten a student's day. Let someone special know you are thinking of her and express your love by sending her a "Sweet Remembrance."

Each package includes a card appropriate for the occasion with a message from you enclosed. Gifts will be held at the Dining Services Bake Shop, and recipients are notified when a "Sweet Remembrance" is waiting for them.

COOKIE OF THE MONTH
Each month, September through April, you can send a dozen gourmet cookies to your daughter. Each month features a different variety, any of which is sure to please.   $8 per month, or 8 months for $50

PERSONALIZED CAKES
Help your daughter celebrate the special events of her life. Our Bakeshop will bake and decorate a cake for any occasion. This 12 by 18 inch sheet cake is available in either white or chocolate. The package includes the cake, complete with your personal message (up to six words), napkins, plates, forks and a special occasion card.   $25.00
  MIDNIGHT MUNCHER
This package includes 3 individual bags of chips, 1 dozen cookies (Baker's Choice), 3 packs of snacks (Oreos, Nutra Grain Bars, Chex Mix), 6 pack of soda, 3 pieces of seasonal fresh fruit, 6 small cans of assorted fruit juice, and 3 candy bars.   $25

FRUIT & CHEESE BASKET
This package includes an assortment of seasonal fresh fruit, three specialty cheeses, plus a variety of crackers.   $25.00

BISTRO BUCKS
Is your daughter working too hard? Give her a break! Bistro Bucks are good for any purchase at the Le Bistro - pizza, bagels, beverages and groceries. Bistro Bucks are available in a pack of five $1 denominations.   $5.00

To order, please download the order form (PDF - free software download), make your selection, and mail it to the address provided on the form. Please allow two weeks advance notice when placing orders.

MENU-ON-THE-GO

SBC has always prided itself on great tasting food, wonderful homemade baked goods and fine service. We are now offering a "take-out" menu for your ordering pleasure to enjoy with your family and friends at home.

These are intended for "Non-Catered" events. All items must be paid in full before being picked up. List prices do not include Virginia Sales Tax.

These menu items are packaged in disposable plastic or aluminum and are available for pickup from the Dining Services Office located in Prothro Dining Hall. Napkins, utensils and other service-ware are available for purchase, as they are not included with the menu items.
